Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineering is one among the prestigious branches that was started in the year 1983, with a current intake of 63 students per year. The course is intended to impart theoretical and practical knowledge in all major fields of mechanical engineering and to develop the necessary skill sets and knowledge base, to seek career opportunities or pursue higher education in the domain. Currently the department is supported by a nine member strong well qualified and experienced staff which includes four lecturers, four lab assistants and head of department. The department also has a  general workshop, headed by workshop superintendent and nine skilled lab staffs.

The department is also well equipped with extensive laboratory and workshop  facilities, furnished with most modern equipments and machinery to provide students with hands on experience on machineries and testing equipments.

Mechanical engineering is a vast domain, with a variety of fields within the domain offering extensive career opportunities which are challenging and lucrative. Both the public sector and private sector provide ample opportunities for mechanical engineering diploma holders along in addition to excellent job prospects abroad. Mechanical engineering diploma holders are in demand for hands on work, supervisory level work and managerial work in various fields. Self employment opportunities are numerous for the students with entrepreneurial aspirations.

Some of the industries which provide jobs to mechanical engineering diploma holders are the automobile, production, energy and water utilities, Petroleum, construction, Marine industry, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry, Railways, Construction and Industrial safety. Public sector companies like SAIL, Coal India Ltd, Nuclear Power Corporation, IOC,BPCL,ONGC, Indian Railways, KSEB require large number of mechanical engineers. Private sector companies like Reliance, L&T, Jindal Steels, Tata Motors, Voltas, etc also are among the major employers of mechanical engineering diploma holders. There are also huge opportunities in the mechanical maintenance fields  such as Automobile service centers, Utility maintenance for Hotels and hospitals, industrial maintenance and shutdown works. Jobs in the field of industrial safety, which includes safety during construction as well as operations and firefighting are very lucrative and demand large number of mechanical engineers.
